The Perfect Make-up Kit
In my consultations with clients, I ask them to bring their make-up kit with them, so that I can see what make-up colour and styles they are using. A few years ago, a client turned up with what looked like a toolbox full of make-up. She proudly announced that she kept all of her make-up, and now in her early 40's, she still had colours from her teenage years and early 20's. 'Yikes' was my reaction! Your make-up kit requires a regular up-date and clear out, just as your wardrobe does. It is easy to keep with the same favourites, just like your favourite outfit. There are so many products on the market now, you may instead be one of those people that take it to the opposite extreme; buying new make-up every week and finding you are completely spoilt for choice. Whether you are a hoarder or over-spender, I am sharing with you my idea of the 'Perfect Make-up Kit' that I use with clients and love to wear myself. Some recommendations are top of their niche whereas others are items that give you an extra glow or sparkle.
The Kit
Eye Brighteners These lift the eye area and lighten and open up the eyes. Often we put all the colour or focus on the lips, forgetting to enhance the eye area. Above the eye Benefit 'Lemon Aid' rub on the entire eyelid area before the eyeshadow or solo for a lift. This is my favourite product in the entire kit. It instantly adds a touch of 'je ne sais quoi' to the eye area. Below the eye - Benefit 'Ooh la Lift' apply just below the eye as you would the concealer. Cheek Colour A powder blush is almost passι, instead cream blushers or gels can give you that extra glow Cream blush Vincent Longo 'Water Canvas Blush' rub along cheekbone Tint Benefit 'Benetint' paint on for pinched healthy look Foundations and Concealers Wearing foundation in these southern temperatures doesnt make sense to me! But if you wish to even-out your skin tone and look polished, rather than a tint or foundation, choose instead a very light finishing liquid. Foundation Prescriptives 'Traceless' so light you wouldn't think you were wearing any foundation. Concealer Yves St Laurent 'Touche Ιclat' apply to banish shadows around the eye and nose area. At one time, this was the biggest seller of beauty products worldwide. Mascara The mascara is a finishing touch and should not overpower the eye area. Rather than wearing thick or heavy mascara, instead use an eyelash curler and then apply a light mascara to set the curl. Clinique 'Natural Gloss Mascara' Bronzer Bronzer is the accessory of the moment; if you have a cooler skin tone and prefer to not wear bronzer, then I recommend Benefit 'Dandelion'. Rub the bronzer along the cheek bone. Clinique 'True Bronzer Pressed Powder' available in 3 colours or Benefit 'Glamazon' for a rich bronze stain. Eyebrow For those of you with fair hair or little eyebrow, this stencil kit is very handy for creating the ideal look. Remember to use a colour that is as close to your natural hair colour, so that it harmonises rather than stands out. Paula Dorf 'Brow Stencil Kit' Lipstick or Gloss You can opt for both with this new version of lipstick and lip-gloss blended into a smooth colour that has shine yet sits on the lips perfectly. Ideal for the office when you want to impress but also maintain a modern look. Paula Dorf 'Lipsicle' Eyeliner This award-winning product is fantastic for creating that sleek eyeliner look and easy to apply as it is an ink rather than kohl pencil. Use a fine long brush to apply. My favourite recommendation for deep hazel eyes is shade 'Hunter'. Bobbi Brown 'Longwear Eyegel'
Eyeshadow Glimmer eyeshadow is perfect for this season's 'Disco' theme. Rather than an ordinary colour, the glimmer adds some shine without being too overpowering like full glitter. Vincent Longo 'Glimmer Formula Eyeshadow'
