Trends for Autumn & Winter 2005
Your image can be complemented with the Fashions of the Season. An underlying theme for this season is Britishness: the NEW MOD look or 'Beatnik' as the press are calling it and LEADING LADY. Again, we have the Boho influences from earlier this year, but with more class and romance - RUSSIAN PEASANT and BAROQUE. The cultural influence is from the South American trails, INCA.
Trends
NEW MOD Fitted, neat, beatnik. Short cropped jackets, skinny jeans, sixties prints, black and white. Film: Quadrophenia. Best impersonator: Kate Moss Best contribution: Skinny jeans are now making a comeback and it has been a few seasons now that we have seen them edging into our stores. The bootcut jean looks like it may be on the way out for good, replaced by the skinny and the straight. The skinny can fit into anyone's wardrobe whether under a dress, under a pair of slouched boots or with a classic heel. This look seems to be the strongest this season, with echoes of Andy Warhol. Image Types: Glam Rock - wear a heel; Trixie Pixie - use the patterns; French Chic - short jackets; Quirky - mix the patterns. LEADING LADY Tailored, simple classical lines. Elegant A-line dresses and skirts, boat necklines, exquisite fabrics, the classic court shoe. Film: Hollywood Classics Best impersonator: Scarlett Johanssen Best Contribution: Classic heel - this season places the classic 50's shoe as a trend Image Types: Aristocrate - perfect; English Rose - introduce tweed; American Classic - soft box pleat skirt; Majestic - strong accessories. RUSSIAN PEASANT Detailed, feminine, eastern junket. Sheer tunic tops, empire line satin top, detailing - bronze gem jacket closure, Film: Anna Karenina Best Impersonator: Sienna Miller Best contributor: Detail - the rough edges of the peasant are gone, replaced by the royal touches of Russian/Victorian folklore. Image Types: Boho - add sparkle; Gypsy - softer the bold; Prairie Girl - introduce exotic; Urban Warrior - fem it up. BAROQUE Luxury textures, layered, rogue. Gypsy skirts, velvet and lace, layers and tiers, lace up boots over jeans, bold lapels and necklines. Film: Zorro Best Impersonator: Catherine Zeta Jones Best Contributor: Velvet tiered skirt - the textures of baroque make tweed look trendy and lace look naughty. Image Types: Cossack - perfect; Gypsy - the skirt; Creative - the textures; Drama Queen - velvet top-to-toe; Folklore - velvet slouch boot. INCA Ethnic, crafts, artsy. Long necklaces, rough edges, textured fabrics. Film: Last of the Mohicans Best Impersonator: Alicia Keys Best Contributor: Long necklace - in beads, gems, woods - wear to your mid-drift Image Types: Boho - go Aztec; Urban Warrior - add some art; Eco Girl - accessorise more; Country Classic - the textures.
